The Libro de los juegos , Spanish "Book of Games", is a literary work that was commissioned by the Castilian King Alfonso the Wise and was published in 1283. It documents the rules of the game of various board games and is considered the first and most important collection of chess problems from the Middle Ages . An original can be found in the library of the monastery residence Real Sitio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial .
