Licelott Catalina Marte Hoffiz de Barrio (born April 30, 1939 in Santo Domingo , Dominican Republic ) is a former diplomat and politician of the Dominican Republic .

biography

After attending school and studying law , the daughter of General Mélido Marte entered the diplomatic service in 1966 and was initially a delegate from 1966 to 1968 . After serving as an ambassador and alternating delegate to the Permanent Mission to the United Nations from 1968 to 1971, she rose to become Undersecretary of State for Foreign Relations in 1973.

As such, in 1975, after the resignation of Víctor Gómez Berges, she became acting foreign minister in the cabinet of President Joaquín Balaguer and a short time later handed over this office to Ramón Emilio Jiménez . She then worked again as Undersecretary at the Foreign Minister between 1975 and 1978.

She was then made a special envoy in 1978 and was a delegate to the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) and later President of the Lawyers' Association.

In 1990 she was appointed finance minister by President Balaguer as finance minister in his fifth government and held this post until 1993. After a government reshuffle, she was most recently Minister in the President's Office from 1993 until the end of Balaguer's term in August 1996 and at the same time President of the National Oil Company .

In 2002 she was elected a member of the Chamber of Deputies and was a member of Parliament for the legislative period until 2006. There she chaired the Committee on Gender Equality and the Commission for the Revision of the Criminal Code. She was also a member of the Constitutional Committee.

At the same time she has been secretary for electoral affairs of the Partido Reformista Social Cristiano (PRSC) since 2002 .
