Lichtenburg Prize of the Musikantenland
The Lichtenburg Prize of the Musikantenland is awarded in recognition of special achievements in the field of maintaining and further developing the West Palatinate musical tradition.
About the price
The award is donated by the district of Kusel , whose district council also adopted the statute, which is the basis for the award. It is usually awarded to a composer who succeeds in writing folk music in the spirit of the West Palatinate musicians , which can be played by the various amateur music ensembles in the West Palatinate region. In special cases, the award can also be given to people who have made a special contribution to musicians in the West Palatinate.
The compositions can
- be free compositions that are stylistically based on the literature of the traveling musicians ,
- Be works that are tied to quotations from original compositions by West Palatinate traveling musicians , or
- Be arrangements of traditional works or work fragments by composing traveling musicians.
The winner is selected by the “Burgrat”. Its members are appointed by the district administrator of the district of Kusel, three of them at the suggestion of the district council. The decisions of the castle council are made with a simple majority; they are not contestable.
The Lichtenburg Prize of the Musikantenland is not open to the public; an application for this award is therefore excluded. Anyone can submit suggestions for the composer to be appointed at any time. They are to be sent in writing to the chairman of the castle council.
The laureate receives a donation and an invitation from the Kusel district to spend four weeks at Lichtenberg Castle .
Since 2003, the prize has been awarded every three years (previously two years).
