history

In 1862, after long negotiations with the authorities, the brothers Michael and Otto Stangl were given permission to build a glass factory for the production of hollow glass on this site at the gates of Zwiesel . The first hollow glass was blown on November 24 of the same year at one o'clock in the morning.

Because of the lightness (purity) of the glass, the Stangl brothers applied for permission to name the glassworks with the surrounding buildings as Lichtenthal. This request was granted by the government in 1863. The glassworks was closed in 1883, but Lichtenthal was given its own stop on the railway line that opened in 1890. Only now has it been incorporated into Zwiesel, after it had previously belonged to the Bärnzell community .

In 1896, the Stangl brothers asked Markt Zwiesel for permission to build an electricity station on the Kleiner Regen. This was rejected at the meeting of the market council on January 22, 1897, but when four market councilors bought the factory building shortly afterwards, an electricity company was also built.

Most of the Stangl wood goods factory burned down on May 12, 1906, but was quickly rebuilt.

societies

In 1956, Lichtenthaler founded a shooting club , which was named in honor of the Stangl Stanglschützen Lichtenthal family.
