Reviews

An unpretentiously told relationship story that is not cast into a solid narrative: the camera doesn't seem to play a role when shooting and creates an incredible closeness, but at the same time a lot of what happens only seems to happen because a camera is there, that gives these "outspoken self-promoters" (Britta Wandaogo) space. A camera that brings life. The eat-in kitchen becomes an imaginary marketplace, where the problems from outside and inside meet and (must) be negotiated. A relationship that has to go through external bureaucratic processes and internal questions of identity or ultimately fails (also because of this). Questions of difference are shown in detail: how something can go well or fail. In the kitchen-cum-living room, major topics - such as Judgment Day when cutting hair - are negotiated or there is a space here where questions of religion, roots, belief and everyday life become public. Forms or osmosis of life forms become visible: coexistence (must). These conflicts are not dealt with didactically and they are not "explained" either. Britta Wandaogo didn't want to make an explanatory piece: explanations in films are tickets to be forgotten. Hilde Hoffmann in conversation with Britta Wandaogo Podium (df25) Duisburg protocols :

The film interweaves cheerfulness, melancholy, passion, love and politics without ever becoming didactic. The original sounds remain uncommented, the main characters tell their story and their everyday stories. Their joy, their anger, lust and frustration in life infect the viewer. The author never loses the distance to her story and therefore manages to take the audience with her. "Liebe Schwarz Weiss" is a story not about cultural differences, but about people whose different origins make life richer: richer in experiences, richer in feelings and of course also in problems. Just cultural diversity. Excerpt from the jury statement for the CIVIS Media Prize, TV Information division.

Britta Wandaogo has succeeded in letting the protagonists speak for themselves - she leaves original sounds uncommented. This gives her very personal and authentic insights into the couple's everyday life. The skillful interplay of everyday situations, intensive conversations and the humor of the protagonists shows, despite all the problems, funny moments, carried by the energy and self-confidence of its main actors. Britta Wandaogo has succeeded in playfully translating the multi-layered potpourri of cultural differences, social origin, political and social acceptance - and ultimately love and tolerance - into a film. The jury expresses particular praise for the skillful camera work. The camera is part of what is happening, catches what seems to be unimportant - and thus underlines the authenticity and modernity of the contribution. The sensitive nature of the report avoids clichés and a voyeuristic perspective. At no point does the feeling arise that the protagonists are being shown. It is precisely this skillful balance between emotions and objectivity that touches the viewer. An outstanding and courageous film. German Social Prize, laudation from Jürgen Gohde, President of the Federal Association of Independent Welfare Care.
