Liebfrauenkirche in Bielefeld-Jöllenbeck

Liebfrauen is a Roman Catholic parish church in Bielefeld - Jöllenbeck . Church and congregation belong to the Schildesche-Jöllenbeck pastoral group in the Bielefeld-Lippe dean's office in the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

history

Only a few Catholics have lived in Jöllenbeck since the Reformation . After the Second World War, many expellees from Silesia came to Jöllenbeck, who were predominantly Roman Catholic. Therefore, on December 18, 1944, a Catholic service was celebrated again in Jöllenbeck for the first time. For the following time, the Protestant community made their church, the Marienkirche , available for Catholic services.

After the number of Catholics had grown to over 800 souls in the 1950s, the desire for a church of their own grew. After the archbishop approved the new building, the community purchased a piece of land and began excavation work on May 15, 1957. On July 17th, dean Heinrich Sunder laid the foundation stone. After almost a year of construction, Archbishop Lorenz Jaeger consecrated the church on June 14, 1958.

In the autumn of 1960 the parish was raised to an independent parish vicarie. The congregation was previously cared for by St. Johannes Baptist in Schildesche. In the spring of 1963 a parsonage was built and in 1965 a parsonage, which is now named after Clemens August Graf von Galen .
