The Liebfrauenschule Vechta gGmbH (ULF) is a state-recognized girls' high school in Vechta ( Lower Saxony ), which was sponsored by the Sisters of Our Lady (Coesfeld) in Vechta until 2013 . The Liebfrauenschule Vechta gGmbH has been the sponsor of the school since August 1, 2013 .

School history

The school was founded on September 29, 1859 with the same name as it is today at the suggestion of the Episcopal Official Engelbert Reismann in Vechta. School operations began on October 15, 1859, initially with 26 children. At that time, the school was located in a town house in Vechta opposite today's hospital.

In the course of history, the facility gradually developed from an originally high school for girls into a general high school. In 1976 the Liebfrauenschule Vechta introduced the reformed upper school . On July 20, 1994, the boarding school attached to the school was closed for personal and financial reasons.

In line with the steadily increasing number of female pupils, the school buildings have been expanded considerably over the years: the natural science wing was built in the 1970s (again extended in 1995), and in 1993 the connecting wing between the chapel wing and the old women's high school building with art and music rooms was built , In 1994 the art studio and the photo laboratory were inaugurated in the new attic of the women's college building. The conclusion was the construction of a new gymnasium on the old sports field on the Contrescarpe in 1999/2000.

On August 1, 2013, a new era began in the history of the school. The Sisters of Notre Dame gave up school, ending the 154 year tradition. The reason: The German province of the globally active order no longer had any offspring and was forced to dissolve the community of sisters in the Liebfrauenhaus in Vechta. The sisters handed over the sponsorship of the school to the newly founded Liebfrauenschule Vechta GmbH, whose sole shareholder is the Bischöflich Münster official office in Vechta. Since the change of sponsor, the Liebfrauenschule Vechta has been run as a three-class high school for girls. In 2015, extensive renovation and refurbishment work began in the school building, which has not yet been completed. Since the school year 2016/17, the classes from grade 6 in ascending order have been run as iPad classes. The Liebfrauenschule is the first school in the district to use digital media in the classroom across all subjects.
