Starachowice (from 1939 to 1949 Starachowice-Wierzbnik ) is a medium -sized town in Poland in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship . It is the seat of the Powiat Starachowicki .
history
The city was only founded in 1939 through the merger of the industrial area Starachowice and the city of Wierzbnik , the latter having received city rights in the 17th century. Up until the end of the 1980s, Starachowice was an important industrial city in which the Star truck works with almost 17,000 workers, foundries, a component factory and companies in the wood processing industry existed. Today the city has to struggle with high unemployment as a result of the increasing loss of heavy industry.
traffic
The city's most important train station, Starachowice Wschodnie, is located on the Łódź – Dębica line , is served by a pair of long-distance trains per week and is the start of the Starachowice – Iłża narrow-gauge railway . The Starachowice and Starachowice Michałów stops are still on the Łódź – Dębica line.
