Mareike Nieberding (* 1987 in Steinfeld (Oldenburg) ) is a German journalist , author and activist . She works as an editor for the Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin .

Life

After graduating from the Liebfrauenschule Vechta in 2006, she studied German philology and journalism in Berlin and Paris . She then trained as an editor at the German School of Journalism in Munich .

Mareike Nieberding has been writing German-language articles for Die Zeit and Zeitmagazin Online , for Neon , the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung and Spiegel since 2011 . She has received various grants, including the Arthur F. Burns Fellowship and a research grant from the Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin . She has been the editor of the Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin since February 2018. In the same year she published the book Oh, Papa about her relationship with her father. In 2019 the non-fiction book Use your youth was published .

Political commitment

In 2017 Nieberding founded Demo , a "youth movement for democracy". After Donald Trump was elected President of the USA, she decided to become politically active herself. To set an example, she founded the movement on Facebook two days after Trump's election. After the federal election, Nieberding announced that he would “continue to offer workshops in schools and other educational institutions” in order to “strengthen the political self-image of young people”.
