The Liebknecht chain ( Russian Хребет Карла Либкнехта Chrebet Karla Libknechta , English Liebknecht Range ) is a 16 km long mountain range in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It forms the southwestern strand of the Alexander von Humboldt Mountains in the Wohlthat massif .
It was discovered and recorded on the basis of aerial photographs taken by the German Antarctic Expedition (1938–1939) under the direction of Alfred Ritscher . Participants in the Sixth Soviet Antarctic Expedition (1960–1962) carried out a geodetic survey and named the mountain range after the German left-wing revolutionary politician Karl Liebknecht (1871–1919).
