The Liechtenstein family crypt in Moravský Krumlov ( Czech Republic ) is located next to the cemetery in the churchyard of the parish church of All Saints. It was the burial place of the Karlische Line of the House of Liechtenstein, which died out in 1908 .

history

The St. Mary's Chapel at St. Bartholomew's Church, built by Max von Liechtenstein in 1693, served as the burial place of the owners of the Small Gundakarian Majorate . After the two majorates had been united since 1712, they separated again in 1771.

After the death of Field Marshal Karl Borromäus von Liechtenstein , owner of the Small Majorate since 1771 , his widow Eleonore, née Princess von Oettingen-Spielberg, had a new family crypt built for the new younger line of princes in 1789. The first-born son Karl Joseph Emanuel von Liechtenstein, who died on Christmas Eve 1795, was also buried here. Subsequently, other members of the Charles Line found their final resting place there.

The last person to be buried was the Chief Chamberlain Rudolf von Liechtenstein at the end of 1908 , with whose death the Charles line also died out.

Building

The classicist building is to the northwest of the Church of All Saints, to the east is the Moravský Krumlov cemetery.

Below the triangular gable is the writing LORD DO NOT JUDGE US, BUT REDEEMER . Above the entrance there is an inscription for the construction of the chapel. In the ashlar plaster of the facade, stone relief coats of arms of the Liechtenstein and Oettingen families are attached on both sides .

The surrounding area was designed by groups of birch and coniferous trees. Inside, the building was decorated by Hubert Maurer with a fresco “Christ on the Cross”.

The family crypt is protected as a cultural monument as part of the All Saints Church ensemble .
