Song motet
The song motet , or motet song, is a form of the motet that originated in Germany in the 16th century and was preferably composed by Protestant composers.
In the song motet, homophonic and polyphonic parts alternate. The cantus firmus , which is used occasionally, is often taken from a German church song ( chorale ). This is performed line by line in tenor or soprano and imitated by all voices in free style. Especially in Protestant church music , the word should thus be brought to bear clearly. Important composers of this genre are Leonhard Lechner , Johannes Eccard , Johann Christoph Demantius and Orlando di Lasso .
