Carl Wilhelm Arldt (born January 19, 1809 in Niederruppersdorf ; † October 27, 1868 in Löbtau ) was a German draftsman and lithographer . He made numerous landscape and portrait lithographs in the 1820s to 1840s.

Biographical data

Arldt, the son of a watchmaker, learned drawing with the high school teacher Christian Gotthelf Müller in Zittau , studied from 1826 to 1830 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden with Carl August Richter in the landscape class. Later he learned u. a. with Ferdinand Hartmann and Heinrich Arnold, but he was expelled from the academy because of irregularities. He stayed in Dresden and learned the profession of lithographer . As such, he worked for various lithographic institutions in Dresden. Numerous landscape and portrait lithographs come from him, particularly from Central Germany.

One of the most remarkable is his large number of lithographs in Saxonia. Museum for Saxon Patriotic Studies . In this richly illustrated historical work on Saxon regional studies 50 drawings and 79 lithographs or both by Arldt are printed. These works were later copied or used in large numbers. Over 300 works by Arldt, along with some paintings, are listed in the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden and can be accessed online as digital copies.

Arldt was married. Two children were born in 1837 and 1839, to whom the mysterious C. Müller , who lithographed many of his works for Saxonia and befriended with Arldt, was the godfather. Müller is identified today as Carl Friedrich Müller (?) Or Carl August Anton Müller (* 1813 in Meißen ; † 1885 Freiberg ).
