List of savings banks in Austria

The Lienzer Sparkasse AG is a Tyrolean banking company based in Lienz and part of the savings bank group in Austria . It was created in 1878 as a club savings bank. The Sparkasse is a member of the cooperation and liability association of the Austrian savings banks and the Austrian savings bank association .

Founding history

The foundation stone for an independent savings bank in Lienz was laid in 1878. The approval in principle from the Imperial and Royal Ministry of the Interior is dated June 26, 1878. The founders of the association were required to deposit a guarantee fund of 12,000 guilders. At the end of August 1878, around 40 citizens of Lienz met in the town hall hall and deposited their shares in the guarantee fund in cash. As a provisional chairman in the constituent general assembly, Mayor Sartori then declared the Lienz Savings Banks Association to have been founded. In October 1878, the Lienzer Sparkasse began trading with parties. For the time being, one official day per week was sufficient; official business was carried out every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. At the end of the first quarter of business, i.e. on December 31, 1878, the considerable sum of 31,226 guilders had already been deposited.

Structural development of the headquarters

Initially the savings bank was housed on the second floor of the town hall, but in 1887 moved to larger rooms in the Unterhueberhaus. From 1912 the need for a separate building could no longer be ignored. But the First World War and its aftermath prevented this wish until 1929. In 1929, today's Sparkasse was built on Johannesplatz. In 1945 aerial bombs destroyed a third of the building. After the major damage had been repaired, it was rebuilt and renewed in 1948/49. In the years 1956/57 it was rebuilt again, this time with the focus on the ticket hall. Nevertheless, a complete renovation and redesign of the facade followed in 1966. In 1984 the head office was enlarged by an extension on the former Bräustüberl site. In 2003, the customer area was rebuilt and the facade was redesigned with the architectural simplicity of the first building from 1929.

Lienzer Sparkasse private foundation

In 2003 the Lienzer Sparkasse was converted into a stock corporation and the private foundation Lienzer Sparkasse was established, which is 100% sole shareholder. 125 years after the founding of the Lienzer Sparkasse - it was considered expedient to choose the legal form of a private foundation as the owner company for the Lienzer Sparkasse and thereby guarantee the fulfillment of the founding purpose for later generations.
