The Liet cave , also known as the “Höhle am Hohe Liet”, is a karst cave just under two kilometers southeast of Warstein in North Rhine-Westphalia .
In the cave there is an underground lake, the overflow of which, according to dye tests, feeds the range with a spring that only spills out from time to time .
history
The stalactite cave was discovered in 1948 below the "Hohen Liet" during blasting in the Feldmann limestone works. It was researched in particular by Franz Lotze . It has been under protection since 1950. In 1954 the cave was broken into by vandals and much of its sintered jewelry was destroyed.
The area has been under nature protection since 1982 with extensions from 2003 as a nature reserve Liethöhle and stream shrinkage of the Waschebach .
