The nature reserve Liethöhle and brook shrinkage of the laundry brook is a 25 hectare nature reserve (NSG) southeast of Warstein in the district of Soest in North Rhine-Westphalia . In 1982 and 2003, the Arnsberg district government designated the area as a NSG by ordinance. In the west, the NSG borders directly on the Enkenbruch industrial area. The NSG has been part of the FFH area of the same name since 2004 (No. DE-4516-305).

Area description

The NSG is a geologically significant limestone cave Liethöhle of 490 m length in a limestone quarry area. The NSG includes the limestone grasslands surrounding the cave , rock corridors, sloe bushes, ruderal and mule societies. The slopes around the cave are about 20-30 degrees.

To the south and south-east the valley of the laundry stream connects . In the Bachtal there is a creek dike and a sinkhole . There are also springs and ponds in the valley. The stream has alder trees accompanying the stream. There are also wet, damp and poor meadows and pastures in the floodplain.

In the NSG bird species such as Red-backed Shrike and Red Kite detected as breeding birds. The crested newt is also found in the NSG.
