from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Piusberg nature reserve is an 8.3 hectare nature reserve (NSG) east of Warstein in the Soest district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The area was designated as a NSG by ordinance in 2000 by the Arnsberg district government . The buildings of Warstein are directly adjacent to the northwest. In the south there is a limestone quarry on the NSG border. Otherwise the NSG borders on grassland.

Area description

The NSG is a steep rock complex made of limestone that slopes almost vertically to the north. To the south, the angle of inclination is flatter, here there is a species-rich poor meadow on shallow Rendzina soil. The area slopes slightly to the east, the steep northern edge is covered with hawthorn bushes. Individual bushes and hedge structures subdivide the rough meadows with species from the Red List of Plant Species. The biotope complex is a valuable biotope for heat-loving species. In the bird world there are hedge and bush breeders.

When it was designated, the NSG showed slight impairment due to damage caused by footsteps in the area of the vegetation-richly valuable and species-rich poor meadows.

Reason for expulsion

According to the NSG ordinance, the NSG was specifically "for the preservation, development or restoration of communities or biotopes of certain wild animal and plant species, in particular the rocky cliffs with their typical communities as well as the plant communities of the limestone semi-dry grasslands, the alternately moist limestone grasslands and the sloe-hawthorn bushes " expelled.
