Lija Levonovna Osipyan

Lija Levonowna Osipjan ( Russian Лия Левоновна Осипян ; Armenian Լիա Լեւոնի Օսիպյան ; born January 15, 1930 in Yerevan , Armenian SSR , Soviet Union ) is an Armenian botanist , plant physiologist and mycologist . Your botanical-mycological author abbreviation is " Osipian ".

Scientific career

Lija Osipjan studied at the Yerevan State University from 1947 to 1952 . In 1958 she became a candidate in biological sciences and in 1970 she became a doctorate in biological sciences. From 1952 to 2005 she worked successively at the Yerevan State University as an assistant and lecturer from 1971 as professor and head of the Department of Botany in the Faculty of Biology. Lija Osipjan was Dean of the Faculty of Biology at the University of Yerevan from 1986 to 1990 and from 1999 to 2002. In 1986 Lija Osipjan became a corresponding member, and in 1996 a full member of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences .

She is the doctoral mother of about 20 scientists.

On December 4, 1981, Lija Osipjan received the Award of Honored Scientist of the Armenian SSR .

Lija Osipja did research in the fields of fungal taxonomy, physiology and ecology; Fungal diseases of wild and cultivated plants; Food contamination from moths and mycotoxins; the effects of extreme conditions on the biological activity of fungi; human fungal diseases as well as biodiversity and ecology.

Osipja is strongly committed to environmental protection. It is thanks to her that numerous green spaces and forests in Armenia are protected. After the introduction of the market economy in Armenia after 1990, she developed a concept for monitoring food safety and guided its implementation. Lija Osipjan is Vice President of the Consumer Academy of Armenia.

Works

Lija Osipjan has published more than 400 scientific papers. These include five monographs on fungi that cause plant diseases and other damage, their toxicity, fungal infections in humans, and on aquatic and other fungi. She continued the edition of the eight-volume “Mycoflora of Armenia”, which was initiated by the founder of mycology in Armenia Darya Nikolaevna Teternikowoi-Babajan. Lija Osipjan is the author of three of these volumes and the editor of all others.

Osipjan is the editor of several magazines.
