Lil 'Ed and The Blues Imperials are a blues band from Chicago based around slide guitarist Lil'Ed Williams.

Band history

The band was founded in Chicago in the 1980s by slide guitarist Ed Williams . Williams learned to play the guitar from his uncle JB Hutto . In addition to the slide guitar, his uncle also taught him the bass and guitar. In the mid-1970s, Williams and his half-brother James "Pookie" Young became professional musicians and formed the first Blues Imperials. To stay afloat, Little Ed worked in a car wash while his brother drove a school bus. Through numerous appearances, they earned a large fan base, which led to Alligator Records signing a record deal with them. In 1992 the band members parted ways, but in 1999 they reunited with the album "Get Wild". In 2009 the band received the Blues Music Award as Band of the Year and in 2007 Ed Williams was named Blues Artist of the Year with this award.
