List of rose varieties |
The rose variety 'Lilian Austin' (syn. 'AUSmound', 'AUSli') is a salmon pink, frequently flowering shrub rose that was introduced in Great Britain by David Austin in 1973 . The rose was bred from a cross between the pink tea hybrid 'Aloha' and the orange-pink shrub rose 'The Yeoman' ('AUSyeo'). Lilian Austin belongs to the 'Aloha' subgroup of English roses .
education
The bushy, strongly branched rose variety 'Lilian Austin' forms a flat, compact, strong shrub. The rose plant is about 100 cm high and 150 cm wide. In warm climates, the more trailing shoots can be pulled into a low climbing rose . The individual, sometimes also in small clusters, salmon-pink colored flowers made up of 33 crinkled petals form a bowl-shaped, pleasantly scented flower about 9 cm in size. After blooming, the yellow stamens become visible in the center of the loosely arranged flower. The rose has lush, dark green leaves with a matt sheen.
The remounting rose is hardy ( USDA climate zones 6b to 10b). It blooms continuously throughout the season until autumn and is resistant to the well-known rose diseases . The rose is ideal for planting the borders of low flower beds and as a low rose bush in cottage gardens .
The 'Lilian Austin' rose variety is shown in numerous rosariums and gardens around the world, including the Trevor Griffiths Rose Garden, New York Botanical Garden , San Jose Heritage Rose Garden, Victorian Rose Garden and the Europa-Rosarium Sangerhausen .
David Austin used this rose to grow several English roses, including 'English Garden' (1986), 'The Prince' (1990) and 'Othello' (1986).
Naming
The rose was named after the mother of the rose grower, Lilian Austin.
