Liliko Ogasawara

Liliko Ogasawara (born May 21, 1972 in Englewood , New Jersey ) is a former judoka from the United States. She was World Cup runner-up in 1993 and World Cup third in 1995.

Athletic career

Liliko Ogasawara won the 1988 Pan American Championships in the weight class up to 61 kilograms. In 1990 she took third place in the weight class up to 66 kilograms at the Junior World Championships. In 1991 she won a bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Havana in the same weight class . In 1992 Ogasawara tried to qualify for the Olympic premiere in women's judo. In the US trials she lost to Lynn Roethke in the weight class up to 61 kilograms .

From 1993 to 1997 Liliko Ogasawara fought exclusively in the weight class up to 66 kilograms. At the 1993 World Championships in Hamilton, Ogasawara defeated French Alice Dubois in the quarter-finals and German Ute Burmeister in the semi-finals . In the final she was defeated by the South Korean Cho Min-sun . At the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata in 1995 , she lost in the final against the Cuban Odalis Revé . Six months later at the World Championships in Chiba Ogasawara was defeated in the quarterfinals by Aneta Szczepańska from Poland . With two wins in the Hope Round, she reached the battle for bronze, which she won against Claudia Zwiers from the Netherlands . In 1996 at the Olympic Games in Atlanta Zwiers won in the round of 16 against Ogasawara. In the hope round, the American first defeated Wu Mei-Ling from the Republic of China (Taiwan) and finished in seventh place after her defeat against Wang Xianbo from the People's Republic of China. The following year, Ogasawara met Wang Xianbo again in their opening match at the 1997 World Championships in Paris and was eliminated.
