Odalis Revé Jimenéz (born January 15, 1970 in Sagua de Tánamo , Holguín Province ) is a former Cuban judoka . She won the first Olympic gold medal in the women's middleweight division in 1992.

Athletic career

The 1.73 m tall Odalis Revé competed in the middleweight division throughout her career. She began her international career by winning the Pan American Championships in 1988. At the Judo World Championships in Belgrade in 1989, she lost in the semifinals to the Japanese Hikari Sasaki , but secured the bronze medal by beating the British Sharon Mills . In 1990 she won the Pan American Championships, as in 1988. In February 1991 she won the Tournoi de Paris . In late July she reached the final at the World Championships in Barcelona by defeating the Japanese Ryōko Fujimoto , where she was defeated by the Italian Emanuela Pierantozzi . Two and a half weeks later, she won the Pan American Games in front of a home crowd in Havana. At the Olympic premiere in the women's judo in Barcelona in 1992 , the middleweight division was the third competition. In the final, Revé met Emanuela Pierantozzi after her semi-final victory over Britain's Kate Howey as in the 1991 World Cup final , after four minutes the Cuban was certain as the winner. At the end of 1992 Revé won again at the Pan American Championships.

In 1993 she won the Tournoi de Paris for the second time . At the World Championships in Hamilton Revé was defeated in the quarterfinals by the eventual world champion Cho Min-sun from South Korea. With three wins in the hopes, she won a bronze medal. In 1994 she won the Tournoi de Paris for the third time and the Pan-American Championships for the fourth time. At the Pan American Games in 1995 , the Cubans won all weight classes. Revé won the final over Liliko Ogasawara from the United States. Half a year later the Cuban received the silver medal at the World Championships in Chiba after her final defeat against Cho Min-sun, it was her fourth world championship medal. In her last major competition at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Revé lost to French Alice Dubois in the round of 16 . After two victories in the Hope Round, the Cuban lost the battle for bronze against Claudia Zwiers from the Netherlands and finished in fifth place.
