Lilium paradoxum is a species from the genus of the lilies ( Lilium ) in the Asian section .
description
Lilium paradoxum is persistent and is between 20 and 45 centimeters high. The approximately spherical onion reaches a diameter of 1 to 2.5 centimeters and has egg-shaped scales that are up to 2.5 centimeters long and 8 millimeters wide. The elliptical or obovate to lanceolate leaves are hairless, are usually in whorls , occasionally individually along the stem, are 4.5 to 5.5 inches long and 1.8 to 2 inches wide.
The plant blooms in July with a terminal, bell-shaped flower. The six similarly shaped narrow elliptical, occasionally narrow egg-shaped bracts ( tepals ) are purple and not speckled, 2.5 to 3.5 inches long and 1 to 1.4 inches wide.
The stamens are shorter than the petals, the stamen is up to 1.6 centimeters, the anthers 6 to 8 millimeters long.
distribution
Lilium paradoxum is endemic in the southeast of Tibet at altitudes between 3200 and 3900 m, it inhabits bushland, hillside meadows and rocky soils.
Botanical history
Lilium paradoxum was first collected in 1947 by Tsongpen, the mountain guide on an expedition, and first described in England by William Thomas Stearn in 1956. It was not until 1997 that the species was rediscovered (at the same site ) through a botanical expedition.
