Lilo C. Karsten (* 1956 in Wermsdorf ) is a German artist and photographer .

Life

Lilo C. Karsten, born in 1956 in Wermsdorf / Saxony, trained as a physiotherapist at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig after attending school from 1962 to 1972, which she completed in 1975. She took painting lessons from the painter Christine Engels until she started studying. In 1978 a first study trip to Kiev with Gerd Thielemann, a lecturer at the evening school at the Leipzig University of Graphics and Book Art, was made possible, continued through many later work trips until today. From 1979 to 1982 she studied at the college for design "Burg Giebichenstein" in Halle / Saale, she was de-registered for political reasons in 1982. Her free artistic work follows in Leipzig. In 1983 she showed large chalk drawings in a solo exhibition in the "Galerie am Körnerplatz" in Leipzig (today "Galerie Eigenart"). 1984 marriage with Thomas Karsten , relocation to the Federal Republic in the same year, in Munich 1986 birth of their daughter Lilly. She was accepted into the professional association of visual artists in Munich in 1989. 1992 three-month work stay in Leipzig. a. on the international art project "Assault" (catalog). 1992/93 one year work stay in Berlin in preparation for the exhibition of "Berlin Works" in the gallery "Weisser Elephant" in Berlin in March 1993. The artist's book "Jacken aus Feuer" appears. In 1993 he returned to the old studio in Haimhausen near Munich. 1994 separation from Thomas Karsten. As a member of the Artists' Association of Dachau (KVD), she has worked on the board for years, participates in the work in the group for contemporary art in Europe at "Euroart", and organizes artist exchanges with artists from China, Brazil and other countries. Since 1994 there have been work stays and trips to Poland, Spain, Brazil, China, France, Sweden. 2001 to 2007 she lives and works in the municipal studio house "Villa Stockmann" in Dachau. In 2005 she was able to work and exhibit in Bremerhaven as a scholarship holder of the Paul Ernst Wilke Foundation. Then in 2007 it was time to return to Berlin to the Zillestrasse 7 studio. In 2009, Karsten's photographic work "Amazonasschweinchen" can be seen for 6 months in the Berlin subway, Weinmeisterstrasse station ("Glück Had" competition organized and judged by the NGBK Berlin). In 2011 the artist's book "Landscape from Water and Stone" bilingual in Seselwa (Creole language of the Seychelles) and German with own texts and drawings is completed after two work stays in 2006 and 2008, work on the so-called "Grunewald Series" is continued in the studio.

Karsten's works include abstract paintings and graphics, photographs and lomographs, as well as room installations .
