Lily Elsie
Lily Elsie , b. Elsie Cotton ( April 8, 1886 - December 16, 1962 ) was a popular English actress and operetta singer (soprano) in the time of Edward VII. Her best-known role is in Franz Lehár's operetta The Merry Widow .
Life
Lily Elsie began her career as a child star in the 1890s, earning a reputation in operettas. In 1907 she made her breakthrough with The Merry Widow . Several successful roles in operettas and musicals followed . Admired for her beauty, she became one of the most photographed people of her time.
