Lily Safra

Lily Safra (born December 30, 1934 in Porto Alegre , Brazil) is a Monegasque - Brazilian philanthropist .

Life

Safra grew up as Lily Watkins in Rio de Janeiro . At the age of 17 she married the Brazilian Mario Cohen, from whom she divorced in the 1960s. Her second marriage in 1965 was Alfredo "Freddy" Monteverde (née Greenberg), who died of suicide in 1969, and in her third marriage she married Samuel Bendahan in 1972, from whom she divorced after a year. She was married to the Brazilian entrepreneur and Jewish banker Edmond Safra , whose fortune she inherited after his death, in her fourth marriage since 1976 . Her property includes the Villa Leopolda on the French Riviera .

In 1977 she founded the International Sephardic Education Foundation . Safra is Chair of the Edmond Safra Foundation . According to the US American Forbes Magazine , she is one of the richest residents of Monaco.
