features

Limonium avei is an annual rosette therophyte that reaches heights of growth of 35 to 60 centimeters. The stem is longitudinally grooved and smooth to fine. The leaves measure 40 to 80 × 10 to 23 millimeters. They are spatulate, more rarely lanceolate and rounded, blunt, pointed or prickly. The spikelets are curved. The ears are (40) 80 to 250 (350) millimeters in size. The crown is purple. The calyx nerves do not emerge or only emerge in a short awn.

The flowering period extends from April to July.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 27.

Occurrence

Limonium avei occurs in the central and eastern Mediterranean area; the evidence from Greece ( Attica and Gavdos Island ) is based on errors. The species grows on rocks and sandy loam soils.
