Linda Tillery

Linda Tillery (born September 2, 1948 in San Francisco ) is an American singer and music producer. She was instrumental in the renaissance of African American vocal forms in the USA.

Live and act

Tillery received a classical vocal training at the age of 19 and then became a member of the soul band Loading Zone . First under the pseudonym Sweat Linda Divine , she began a solo career in 1970, but also worked in the studios, where she eventually worked as a producer for Olivia Records . She has worked as a drummer and singer in the ensembles of Carlos Santana , Teresa Trull, Bobby McFerrin , Huey Lewis , June Millington, Linda Ronstadt , Barbara Higbie and Taj Mahal . Since 1991 she has been collecting songs and materials from African American history. In 1993 she founded the purely female occupied Cultural Heritage Choir , of a repertoire of spirituals , Blue songs , work songs , children's songs from North America as well as South African and Afro-Brazilian songs a cappella brought to the performance world. She also plays blues and jazz with her band Skin Tight .

She has twice received the Bay Area Jazz Award for Outstanding Vocalist .
