Architecture and history
It is a massive stone building in the villa style of the Wilhelminian era. It was built in 1893 by the Berlin architect Hans Grisebach on behalf of Prince Otto zu Stolberg-Wernigerode for his chamber president. In 1928, Hereditary Prince Botho zu Stolberg-Wernigerode moved into the building, which was then given the name Hereditary Prince (s) palace or villa.
Until the renumbering in 1937, the house had the address Lindenallee 34 .
The roof of the building was damaged in the bombing raid on Wernigerode in February 1944. In May 1945 the American occupation troops and after their withdrawal the Soviet military government confiscated the building and all residents had to leave the building.
In September 1945 the property was expropriated as part of the land reform. In February 1946 there was a major theft in the building, in which the important home collection located there was stolen. The SED district management of Wernigerode was later housed here, before it was used as an employment office at the beginning of the 1990s and as a hotel from 1997.
In the local register of monuments the house is listed as a monument under registration number 094 25047.
