Administration building with coat of arms of the municipality of Vienna

The Lindenhof in the city of Eggenburg in Lower Austria is a training home for male young people in the city of Vienna . The building is a historical monument.

history

From 1887 to 1888 a reformatory for children and adolescents was built on Grafenbergerstrasse and then looked after 200 boys and girls between the ages of six and 14 years. In 1908, the city's former hospital building was acquired and the institution expanded with new buildings in the pavilion system on Felberstrasse. In 1922 the administration went to the City of Vienna.

Today (2013) around 30 young people are being looked after, who are learning various professions, including bricklayers, carpenters, bakers, gas and water plumbers and painters. A social integration of the inmates is aimed for.

The home has often attracted media interest since the 1960s.

architecture

The oldest building from 1888 on Grafensbergerstraße is a multi-wing complex with protruding risalits. The agricultural training buildings with stables and workshops were built using timber frame construction and brick decor. The pavilions on Felberstrasse, built in 1908, are symmetrically arranged like a park and show a rich late-historical structure and decoration, some with old German-romantic castle-like shapes and strongly structured roofs with ridge pommel decorations. Some of the foyers and staircases are still in their original furnishings.
