The structure is part of an assembly that was created at the same time. To the north of the school in the direction of Buchholzer Straße are the former imperial post office, an official residence and a doctor's villa. The school building is the fourth of the five buildings. The latter is the Hotel Schenk von Landsberg at the intersection of Lindenstrasse / Kastanienallee and the Buchholzer Strasse as an extension. To the northeast of the building there are other listed buildings, including the Teupitz Castle , the Holy Spirit Church and the Teupitz Town Hall . In between the moat flows into the Teupitz lake .

history

Until the end of the 19th century, Teupitz's children were educated in the rectory next to the Heilig-Geist-Kirche. Due to the economic upswing at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, the number of residents also increased - including the number of children. Craftsmen therefore erected the building with separate apartments for teachers at the beginning of the 19th century according to plans by the architect Paul Sübers . The inauguration took place on May 23, 1910 by the local school inspector Pastor Rothe . The headmaster Franz Hoffmann opened the gate with the words Mit Gott .

During the time of National Socialism , the new ideology was taught until the end of the Second World War . After the denazification , the anti-fascist headmaster Hans Opitz took over the school. In 1946 a central school association was to be established. From 1951 he planned to teach the students from Tornow , Neuendorf and Egsdorf as well. However, after resistance from the parents, the plan could only be implemented two years later. In the time of the GDR , a polytechnic high school was gradually established from 1959 to 1979 . July 7, 1973, the school named Willi-Bredel high school to and thus proved the president of the Academy of Arts of the GDR Willi Bredel the honor.

After the reunification , this name was dropped and the school was converted into a six-class elementary school. Since then, the higher grades have attended the school in Groß Köris . In 1995 the building was renovated for 500,000 DM, which was supplemented in 1998 by a newly built sports hall above the school building. In 2007, the building was supplemented by an extension with an auditorium and further after-school care and classrooms. In 2010 the school celebrated its 100th anniversary with a week of festivities. A copper beech was planted and a time capsule was buried with the students' wishes.

architecture

The building was built from sand-lime brick on the rising slope of the Gesenberg . This resulted in three floors facing the street , while there are only two full floors in the rear area. The facade is structured with large, rectangular and symmetrically arranged windows. Access is via a porch that extends the entire height of the building. In the 21st century, the lower part of the façade is clad with reddish bricks, above it is plastered in white . Older photos show a grayish, uniform plaster.
