The Lindhoop monument consists of boulders. These are rocks of various sizes that came from Scandinavia to the Lintelner Geest during the Ice Age . The majority of the boulders used were found on site in the Kirchlinteln area . There are several commemorative plaques on the war memorial.

Building history

The memorial was erected as a war memorial by an artillery regiment of the Reichswehr from Altona to commemorate the fallen soldiers of the First World War . The location was chosen because of the land available in the Lindhoop forest and heath area between Kirchlinteln and Verden (Aller) . It was made available by a regimental captain who came from Kirchlinteln. The annual regiment meeting at the monument in Kirchlinteln could thus be combined with an “excursion into the heath ”. The monument was erected according to a design by the painter Adolf Hinzpeter and inaugurated in 1932.

After the seizure of power that made the Nazis in 1936, the open space in front of the monument fix up as a training ground and used the square from now on military appeals .

history

In the period that followed, the Altona regiment held regular reservist meetings with wreath-laying at the memorial. 1971 took over rocket artillery 32 of the Bundeswehr from Barme until its dissolution in 1993 the sponsorship of the monument and continued this tradition. Since 1993 the war memorial has been maintained by Kirchlintler citizens as a local attraction and is a popular starting point for walks in the Kirchlinteln district.

Because of its dilapidation, direct access to the obelisk has been blocked by a construction fence since 2018 after individual stones have already fallen. The possibilities of a restoration should be clarified by an expert opinion from a restorer.
