As voice control is defined as the transmission of commands to technical equipment which is made by voice.

In principle, the principle of voice control can be used with a very large number of device types. The prerequisite is that there is a speech recognition module that can record and interpret spoken utterances.

There is software with which the operating system of a PC can also be controlled by voice commands as an alternative to control via conventional input devices such as a mouse or keyboard .

A currently increasing area of ​​application can be found on smartphones in the form of intelligent personal assistants .

Voice control is also used in navigation systems in cars . The driver no longer has to enter his destination route by hand using buttons, touchscreen or scroll wheel , but can transmit the commands as well as the street and place names to the device by voice input.

User numbers in Germany

According to a representative survey at the beginning of 2016, 52 percent of Germans who use a smartphone used voice control on their device. The most common areas of application are calling contacts (76 percent), dictating text messages (54 percent) and searching for Internet research (31 percent).
