history
Construction work on the L-4 began in 1942. It was delayed again and again, as the Second World War shook the rest of Europe and certain building materials were therefore only available to a limited extent. The first section between Argüelles and Goya was opened on March 24, 1944. This created a west-east connection with which the city center could be bypassed.
The L-4 took over the section between Goya and Diego de León on October 2, 1958 . This had existed since 1932 and was operated as a branch line of the L-2 . It was closed during the Spanish Civil War and served as an arsenal .
On March 27, 1973, the section between Diego de León and Alfonso XIII was opened. This was followed by the sections Alfonso XIII - Esperanza on January 5, 1979, Esperanza - Mar de Cristal on April 27, 1998 and Mar de Cristal - Parque de Santa María on October 15, 1998.
From Parque de Santa María , the line was extended on April 11, 2007 by 3.2 km to Pinar de Chamartín . There you can change to the L-1, which was extended on the same day, and to the ML-1 line of the Metro Ligero Madrid .
