Linkenau

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linkenau is a deserted area in the area of Stadt Wehlen in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains , Saxony .

geography

The Linkenau desert is located in the Elbe valley on the right bank of the river. According to the Digital Historical Directory of Saxony, it is located west of the city of Wehlen in the corridor of the district of Zeichen . Other sources locate the desert to the east of the city of Wehlen: On the large map of Saxon Switzerland by Rolf Böhm, Linkenau indicates the houses on the Hofewiese below the Black Mountain and the White Quarries. In the same place, the topographic map Kurort Rathen, Hohnstein of the Saxon state enterprise Geobasisinformation und Vermessung shows the historical field name Linckenau.

history

The existence of a desert is assumed by researchers based on old mentions of Linkenau. For example, in 1484 there was “the wesen and tree garden in Linckenaw” and in 1568 it was about a location “on the Linckenauer meadows”. The place name is of German origin and consists of two parts. The first part is probably derived from the Middle High German linc, steer for 'left, left, left lying', the second part -au refers to the location in the floodplain. Possibly the place name means "settlement in a poor place in the Elbe". It is not known when the place fell into desolation.
