Agostino Mancinelli

Agostino Mancinelli (born July 4, 1882 in Pontecorvo , Province of Frosinone , Italy , † January 1, 1962 in Benevento ) was Archbishop of Benevento .

Life

Mancinelli was ordained a priest on July 31, 1905 .

Pope Pius XI appointed him on June 30, 1931 coadjutor bishop of Aquino-Sora-Pontecorvo and titular bishop of Nazianzus . He received his episcopal ordination on September 6th of the same year by Carlo Liviero , Bishop of Città di Castello . Co- consecrators were Pompeo Ghezzi , Bishop of Sansepolcro , and Bonaventura Porta , Bishop of Pesaro . After the death of Antonio Maria Jannotta on December 5, 1933, he succeeded him as Bishop of Aquino, Sora e Pontecorvo.

On April 15, 1936, he was appointed Archbishop of Benevento. Archbishop Mancinelli laid the foundation stone for the construction of the new cathedral on July 1, 1950, after the old building was destroyed by American bombing during World War II . Agostino Mancinelli died on January 1, 1962, nine months before the start of the Second Vatican Council .
