history
In the 3rd century the diocese of Arezzo was established. This gave up on November 10, 1561 parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Montepulciano . The Bishop of Arezzo has had the right to wear the pallium since 1730 .
On September 30, 1986, the diocese of Arezzo was annexed by the Congregation for the Bishops with the decree Instantibus votis, the dioceses of Cortona and Sansepolcro . The diocese of Arezzo-Cortona-Sansepolcro is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Florence as a suffragan .
