Linton is a village in Cambridgeshire , England , not far from the Essex border . It has expanded a lot since the 1960s and is now inhabited by many commuters. The station of the former Stour Valley Railway between Cambridge and Colchester has been closed since 1967. The water tower on Rivey Hill is a landmark that can be seen from afar. The River Granta (or Cam ) flows through the place.

There are three pubs along the high street , some of which also offer high quality food, as well as an Indian restaurant. To the south there is the privately owned Linton Zoo and to the north is the Chilford Hall winery . There are several shops and businesses in Linton, some in The Grip industrial estate .

schools

There are four schools in Linton: downtown Linton CofE Infant School by St. Mary's Church for ages 4 to 7. Towards Bartlow is Linton Heights Junior School for ages 7 to 11. Linton Village College for ages 11 to 16 is on the A1307, Haverhill's main drag . The nearby Granta School is one of six special schools for children aged 3 to 9 with special requirements.

Fictional hotel

Linton became known through the fictional character Alan Partridge of the English actor Steve Coogan , who once justified his extended stay in the equally fictional Linton Travel Tavern by saying that it was halfway between London and Norwich . The BBC television film was shot in the Hilton Hotel on the A41 near Bushey .
