Lionell Spruill

Lionell Spruill (born December 28, 1946 in South Norfolk , Virginia ) is an American politician ( Democratic Party ). He has been a Senator in the Virginia Senate since 2016, representing the 5th District.

Life

Spruill was born in South Norfolk, Virginia in 1946 and was one of 15 children in his family. He attended Carver High School. He later worked at Bell Atlantic as a Central Office Technician .

In 1988 he was elected to the Chesapeake City Council and was a member until 1994 after he was elected to the Virginia House of Representatives. Spruill was again a member from 1994 to 2016. He has been a Senator in the Virginia Senate since 2016 , where he represents the 5th district after the previous Senator Kenneth C. Alexander became Mayor of Norfolk .

The Norfolk State University awarded him an honorary doctorate . Spruill has a daughter and three sons.
