Liophryne is an amphibian genus of the family -mouthed . The genus was synonymous with Sphenophryne in 2017 and amalgamated under this name. Not all authors have followed this definition so far.
description
The pupils are horizontal. The tongue is large, elongated, incised at the back and can be raised freely to a large extent. Behind the line connecting the choans are two rows of palatal teeth converging backwards . In front of the entrance to the throat there are two transverse folds of skin, at least the rear of which is strongly serrated. The eardrum is clearly visible. The fingers and toes are free and slightly distended at the tips. The precoracoid are present and very slender. The omosternum is missing. The sternum is small and cartilaginous. The transverse processes of the sacral vertebra are moderately widened.
Occurrence
The genus occurs only in New Guinea .
