No One Lives Forever 2: Agent on a secret mission (original title No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in HARM's Way ) is a first-person shooter developed by the US studio Monolith Productions and the sequel to No One Lives Forever, which was released in 2000 . The action game was released on October 18, 2002 by Fox Interactive and Sierra Entertainment for Microsoft Windows . In 2003 an offshoot called Contract JACK appeared , but it does not continue the story of the No-One-Lives-Forever parts and has a new male protagonist.
description
No One Lives Forever 2 is a first-person shooter with pronounced stealth and rudimentary role-playing elements that is set in the Cold War . As in the first part, the player takes control of the protagonist Cate Archer, a secret agent of the British secret service UNITY . Your opponent is again the terrorist organization H.ARM. However, the visual concept has largely been changed. The main character Cate Archer has been optically redesigned, the colorful reference to the Swinging Sixties - an essential part of the atmosphere in the first game - is largely missing. The locations, equipment, opponents and plot are still varied and humorous. Her missions take Archer, for example, to India , to a secret HARM underwater base and to an Antarctic research station. This time her tools include exploding robot cats and non-lethal banana peels . Although most of the game sections are linear, including the claustrophobically narrow research station, there are also different levels such as Siberia , in which the player enjoys more freedom in the process.
As with its predecessor, the player rarely gets further in No One Lives Forever 2 with a simple shootout, as new opponents keep appearing when the alarm is triggered. He must therefore avoid his opponents and surveillance cameras and hide in the shadows in order not to be discovered. Sometimes he is also not allowed to simply eliminate his opponents, but has to try to distract them in other ways, such as with a banana or a coin. The acquisition of experience points is new : Cate Archer receives points for completing missions and finding secret service documents, which the player can invest in improving attributes , such as increased health, more dexterity or more effective camouflage. As a result, No One Lives Forever 2 is reminiscent of action role-playing games like Deus Ex . The creepy atmosphere and the gameplay in the Antarctic research facility are again inspired by survival horror .
Compared to the first part, the graphics have also been heavily optimized. a. Facial animations have been improved, ragdoll physics have been integrated and the advanced engine LithTech Jupiter has been used for realistic water display pixel shaders . The textures are high-resolution and the 3D models are much more detailed.
