The Lippeschlösschen (also Lippeschlößchen ) is a historic building in the south of Wesel , which is now used as a restaurant .

location

The Lippeschlösschen is located in the Lippedorf district and is around two kilometers from Wesel city center. It is located directly south of the eponymous river Lippe . The structure lies on the edge of the federal highway 8 , which crosses the Lippe there. Between the Lippeschlösschen and the confluence of the Lippe into the Rhine, which is about two kilometers away as the crow flies, is the mouth of the Lippe , which has been restored to its natural form as a floodplain landscape through a renaturation process.

history

The foundation stone for the later Lippeschlösschen was laid around 1640. The Lippeschlösschen served as an officers' mess for Fort Blücher , which was built between 1807 and 1813 and was part of the Wesel fortress . At that time it actually had the structural shape of a small castle. Towards the end of the 19th century, it turned into a restaurant that was open to the entire population. During the Ruhr uprising , the Red Ruhr Army took up position in the immediate vicinity of Lippeschlösschen in March 1920 in order to bombard the city of Wesel from there. In addition to a severe defeat for the rebels, this led to a severe destruction of the Lippeschlösschen. In World War II it was again badly damaged.

In 1957 the Lippeschlösschen was rebuilt and set up again as a restaurant. In the 1960s and 1970s it was operated as a nationally known dance hall. Then it became a pure restaurant again.
