The Lippspringische original comparison is a certificate from 15./5. July 1658, which regulated the demarcation between the Principality of Lippe and the Principality of Paderborn after the Thirty Years' War .

The border was negotiated in Lippspringe by envoy of Paderborn's bishop Dietrich Adolf and by deputies of Count Hermann Adolf zur Lippe . On the Lippe side, the ambassadors were Chamber President Tilhelm and Landdrost von Donop zu Schloss Wöbbel .

High Schnatsteine still show the former border between the Duchy of Paderborn and the County of Lippe. The word "Schnat" comes from the Low German "snat" and means "border". The Principality of Paderborn and the County of Lippe were closely linked for centuries. The Lippe family appointed a ruling prince-bishop in the diocese of Paderborn four times. The two territorial states gradually diverged, and after the Counter-Reformation additionally encouraged by their different religious affiliations.

Since there were no land registers and cadastral drawings in the modern sense at that time, it is understandable that the boundaries could not be so sharply defined in the old days and that border disputes occurred frequently. This was the case not only with private possessions, but also with national borders. After increased disputes, there was then in July 1658 the "Lippspringische Originalvergleich" which defined the border more precisely.

Extract from the invitation:

“By the most revered Prince and Lord, Mr. Dietrich Adolphen Bischoff zu Paderborn, the Holy Roman Empire Prince and Count of Pyrmont and Mr. Hermann Adolph, Count and Noble Lord of Lippe, as ruling sovereign of the County of Lippe, a conference was convened about the border between Lippe and Paderborn ... everything is plentiful and wanted to be considered and disputes that have arisen are accommodated (agreed), dealt with and forever compared ... to be determined "

The delegations from Lippe and Paderborn, from July 5th to 15th, 1658, laid down the borderline from Lutterdeiche not far from Lippspringe to Bellenberg. To mark the border, cutting stones were set at certain intervals.

The stones bear the Lippe rose on one side and the Paderborn cross on the other. The inscription reads Landschnad 1658. Some stones that were set later have a Prussian eagle instead of the Paderborn cross. Boundary stone no. 1 was replaced by a triangular stone in 1757. It is also boundary stone No. 102 of the Paderborn-Rietberg border.

The state boundary stones were included in the initial survey in Lippe (between 1878 and 1880). Your location is thus properly determined. The stones must have been numbered around 1860 in advance. Some of the numbers are entered in the cadastral maps (land maps).

The course of the border begins with boundary stone No. 1 between Stukenbrock and Sennestadt , then stretches south to Schlangen and finally turns east towards Leopoldstal , Vinsebeck and Bellenberg / Ottenhausen.

The last boundary stone with the number 90 should be on the Ottenhausen - Vahlhausen dirt road. But he can no longer be found. The last existing stone bears the number 89. It is in Bellenberger Holz (Bellenberg / Vahlhausen district boundary).
