Hermann Adolf zur Lippe-Detmold (born January 31, 1616 in Detmold ; † October 10, 1666 there ) was sovereign of the County of Lippe-Detmold .

Life

He was the son of Count Simon VII zur Lippe and Countess Anna Katharina von Nassau-Wiesbaden-Idstein (1590–1622).

In 1659 he completed the expansion of the Horn Castle with a magnificent baroque portal over which the coats of arms of his family and his wife are attached.

The majority of the Detmold witch trials took place under his government: 1653–1654 five witchcraft charges, from 1654 imprisonment of 52 “magic children” in the Detmold schoolhouse, 1657–1661 twelve trials, 1666 and 1669 charges against two men for sorcery.

1663-1664 he took part in the 4th Austrian Turkish War by sending a company of 140 mercenaries. After the Peace of Eisenburg , the soldiers returned home in December 1664.

Hermann Adolf had been married to Countess Ernestine zu Isenburg-Büdingen-Birstein from Offenbach (* February 9, 1614 - December 5, 1665) since 1648 and had four children with her:

  • Count Simon Heinrich (March 13, 1649 - May 2, 1697) ∞ Countess Amalia von Dohna-Vianen from The Hague (February 2, 1645 - March 11, 1700)
  • Anna Maria (February 20, 1651 - July 22, 1690)
  • Sophie Ernestine (March 9, 1652 - January 22, 1702)
  • Johanna Elisabeth (* August 6, 1653; † June 5, 1690) ∞ Count Christoph Friedrich zu Dohna-Lauck (* October 19, 1652; † November 10, 1734)

After Ernestine's death on December 5, 1665, he married Countess Amalia zur Lippe-Brake in 1666 (* September 20, 1629, † August 19, 1676). This marriage remained childless.
