Simon Heinrich zur Lippe

Simon Heinrich zur Lippe-Detmold (born March 13, 1649 in Sternberg , † May 2, 1697 in Detmold ) was sovereign of the county of Lippe-Detmold .

Life

Simon Heinrich was the eldest son of Count Hermann Adolf zur Lippe-Detmolds and his first wife, Countess Ernestine zu Ysenburg-Büdingen-Birstein. Simon-Heinrich had three sisters: Anna Maria (1651–1690), Sophie Ernestine (1652–1702) and Johanna Elisabeth (1653–1690).

In 1665 he entered the government. On 15 September 1666 he married in The Hague Baroness Amalia von Dohna -Vianen, Erbburggräfin Utrecht, heiress of Vianen and Ameiden (born February 2, 1644, The Hague), The General's Daughter Christian Albrecht von Dohna .
After his wife's brothers died in front of Ofen during the Turkish Wars (1686), their inheritance fell to the County of Lippe; it included the rule of Vianen mit Ameide, the burgrave of Utrecht and numerous goods from the Brederode house .

1683–1685 he had the Lopshorn hunting lodge built by his father in 1657 in today's Augustdorf replaced by a representative hunting lodge with outbuildings symmetrically arranged around a courtyard . The complex, designed in Palladian classicism , consisted of a simple two-story main building with a mezzanine floor , which was flanked by two single -story stable buildings. The dairy farm , founded in the 16th century, was housed in the stables . The complex fell victim to an arson attack by prisoners of war on July 11, 1945 and was demolished in 1947.

Simon Heinrich died on May 2, 1697 in Detmold. His wife Amalie then moved to Varenholz Castle , where she died on March 11, 1700.

Coinage

Portrait of Simon Heinrich on a thaler from 1672

During the reign of Simon Heinrich, around 60 different gold , silver , copper and billon coins  - a relatively large number of coins by Lippe standards - were minted: ducats , thalers , Mariengroschen and pennies . The new count's coat of arms with the heart shield of the Vianen rulership appeared for the first time on coins from 1692.

The coinage in Lippe was determined during the reign of Simon Heinrich, among other things by the conference of Oerlinghausen (April 18, 1671), the coin day in Herford (December 11, 1673), the conference of Röhrentrup (1685).
