Johannes Bauermann

Johannes Bauermann (born June 24, 1900 in Görlitz ; † March 11, 1987 in Herbern ) was director of the Münster State Archives, honorary professor for historical auxiliary sciences at the University of Münster and chairman of the historical commission for Westphalia .

Life

After school, studying history in Breslau and training as an archivist, Johannes Bauermann was appointed State Archives Councilor in Magdeburg in 1928 and in 1938 head of the archives advisory office in Westphalia. A year later he was appointed director of the Münster State Archives . Bauermann held this office until 1961. The director of the state archives became honorary professor for historical auxiliary sciences at the University of Münster in 1940 and two years later a university archivist .

In May 1932 Bauermann was appointed a full member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia . From November 1934 to 1939 he was honorary managing director of the commission, from July 1935 a member of the board, from December 1939 to 1946 deputy chairman, then from 1946 to 1963 again honorary managing director. From May 1963 to January 1970 Bauermann was the first chairman of the commission, in April 1972 he was elected an honorary member. Bauermann died on March 11, 1987. His estate is in the university archive of the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster .
