Lisa Hanna (born August 27, 1975 ) is a Jamaican politician of the People's National Party (PNP). She gained notoriety by winning the Miss World election in 1993. Since January 6, 2012, she has been Jamaican Minister for Youth and Culture.

Life

Hanna grew up in retreat in Saint Mary Parish , she attended Queen's High School.

In 1993 she took part in the Miss Jamaica World competition and won. In November 1993, she also won the international competition in Sun City, South Africa, and was named Miss World 1993. She was the third Jamaican woman to win this competition.

Hanna studied communications at the University of the West Indies , earned her bachelor's degree in 1998 and graduated with a master's degree in 2000 . Professionally, she works as a communications consultant, but at the beginning of the 2000s she co-hosted the talk show Our Voices on Jamaican television. She was involved in various development projects, including the World Hunger Project and the Jamaica Movement for the Advancement of Literacy . She was the United Nations (UN) Goodwill Ambassador .

Hanna was married and had a son in 2001. The marriage was divorced in 2004.

politics

In the general election on September 3, 2007, Hanna was elected to the House of Representatives as a candidate for the People's National Party (PNP) in the constituency of St. Ann South Eastern . She was then opposition spokeswoman for youth and cultural policy.

She was also able to win her constituency in the parliamentary elections on December 29, 2011. The PNP won the government majority in these general elections and Hanna was appointed Minister for Youth and Culture by Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller . She was sworn in on January 6, 2012.

In 2014, a beach picture published by Lisa Hanna herself aroused Jamaican hearts. With the picture she wanted to thank the organizers of a reggae event.
