The Lissos (historical name for Herodotus ) ( Greek Φιλιουρής Filiourís ) is a 58 km long river in the Greek administrative region of East Macedonia and Thrace .

The source of the river is not far from the border with Bulgaria in the Rhodope Mountains in the Rodopi (Komotini) regional district near Vyrsini near the Megalo Livadi mountain. The outflow is to the southwest through the municipality of Arriana ; at Amaranda (municipality of Maronia-Sapes ) the river takes on the Patermos coming from the right. At Imeros it flows into the Ormos Anoikto bay of the Aegean Sea after a run of around 58 km . It crosses the Thessaloniki-Alexandroupolis railway and the Aftokinitodromos 2 motorway ( Εγνατία Οδός ).
