List of mayors of Volkach
The list of mayors of Volkach gathers the first mayors of the city of Volkach in the Kitzingen district in Lower Franconia . For the first time, the names of the city councilors were recorded in 1403, although a mayor must have existed as early as 1395.
Middle Ages (1403 to 1500)
The phrase “mayor and council” first appeared in Volkach in 1395. Previously, only the mayors and the entire city citizenship were mentioned in the sources. The first mention was followed in 1402 by the "Burgmistri et Consulatus oppidi Volkkach" (lat. Mayor and Council of the City of Volkach ). From 1403 the mayors of the city were also recorded by name. The offices were divided between a Lord Mayor and a Sub-Mayor.
In the Middle Ages, a one-year term of office of the city council had become natural. However, several terms of office of the same people were the rule, so that, for example, Hans Dichter held the office of mayor five times. The mayors were mainly recruited from the wealthy arable citizens of the city and feudal people from the surrounding territories. Disused city schools can also be found here, so that the term “city school, mayor, council and citizen of the city and suburbs of Volkach” was established up to the 15th century.

Early modern period (1504 to 1725)
The mayors from 1504 to 1677
The early modern times were heralded in Volkach with the publication of the so-called Volkacher Salbuch by Niklas Brobst von Effelt in 1504. It also records the city regulations of 1484, which outlines the circumstances of the mayoral election in more detail. Furthermore, the election was planned every year, a mayor should come from the inner city council of twelve, while the other should come from the outer city council. They had to take an oath of mayor before their predecessors and were rewarded with four guilders a year in addition to natural produce.

Modern times (1725 until today)
The mayors 1725 to 1816
The gradual transition to modern times did not change much in Volkach's traditional rules of mayoral elections. Two chiefs still represented the city, with the mayor responsible for the city's properties, the safekeeping of the city seal and city key and administration. The sub-mayor was also Volkach's master builder.

The mayor from 1816 to the present day
With the transition to the Kingdom of Bavaria, the division of office into mayors and mayors was abolished. From then on, the terms of office of the mayors became longer. In addition, the exact terms of office were usually handed down. From the post-war period onwards, the party leadership became more important. In Volkach, the mayors were mostly recruited from the Free Voters Community of Bavaria (FWG).
