The urban bus transport in Linz is operated by Linz Linien GmbH . The omnibus traffic started in 1928 complements the Linz tram that opened in 1880 and the Linz trolleybus that opened in 1944 . There are also other bus routes in Linz, in particular the post buses , the bus routes operated by Wilhelm Welser Verkehrsbetriebe Traun and long-distance bus routes.

Regular lines

Line 11

A natural gas bus on line 11 *

Line 11 runs from Pichlinger See to the Leonding sports hall and is operated every weekday. With the exception of a few morning trips, the line has only been running during the day for several years as line 11 * between Pichlinger See and Wegscheider Straße.

Line 12

Line 12 runs from Auwiesen to Karlhof. The line runs every quarter of an hour on weekdays and every half hour on weekends and public holidays. It stops at 32 stops.

Line 17

Line 17 runs from the district heating power station to Hitzing, where it meets the Linz local railway .

Line 18

Line 18 only runs four journeys in the morning and two journeys in the evening on weekdays and serves the Voestalpine factory premises . With the exception of the first two stops, all of the stops are located on parts of the factory premises that are not accessible to the public.

Line 19

Line 19 leads from Pichlinger See via the urban area of Leonding to the Linz district heating power station .

Line 25

Line 25 runs from Karlhof through the industrial area in the east of Linz to the Oed district. The line runs every quarter of an hour on weekdays and every half hour on weekends and holidays.

Line 26

Line 26 runs from the Linz stadium over the Freinberg to St. Margarethen. It runs every half hour every day.

Line 27

Line 27 leads from the district heating power station via the Freinberg and Linz main station to the chemical park. The journey time is around 47 minutes.

Line 33

Line 33 leads from Riesenhof to Pleschinger See in Steyregg . The line runs every day of the week.

Line 33a

At the end of the day, line 33a replaces line 33 and runs from Plesching to Rudolfstraße. The Pleschinger See stops and those from the bend in the direction of Riesenhof are not used by line 33a.

Line 38

Line 38 leads from Hinsenkampplatz to Haselgraben. The line runs every day of the week.

Express lines

All express lines only run on weekdays.

Line 70

Line 70 runs between the Traun city ​​cemetery and the shipyard. The journey time is around 38 minutes.

Line 71

Line 71 runs between the Baintwiese and the source. The journey time is around 36 minutes.

Line 72

Line 72 runs from the city cemetery via Linz main station to the shipyard. The line started operations on December 16, 2013.

Line 73

Line 73 leads from the Baintwiese to the district heating plant. The bus route runs on the Mühlkreisautobahn .

Line 77

Line 77 runs between Linz Central Station and Johannes Kepler University . Since, like line 73, it runs over the Mühlkreisautobahn , the journey time is only 18 minutes.

All district lines only run all day Monday to Friday and Saturday until noon. The lines are operated by Sabtours minibuses on behalf of Linz AG.

Line 101

Line 101 runs from Urnenhain Urfahr via St. Magdalena to Aichinger.

Line 102

Line 102 runs from Rudolfstrasse on the Bachlberg to Worathweg and also runs on the main road on its way.

Line 103

Line 103 runs from Turmstraße via Spaunstraße to Lißfeld / Weinheberstraße and via Glimpfingerstraße back to Turmstraße. It is a ring line.

Line 104

Line 104 runs from Sennweg via the Wambachsiedlung to Waldesruh.

Line 105

Line 105 runs from Solarcity / Siriusweg via Pichlinger See to Südpark.

Line 106

Line 106 runs from Ennsfeld / Florianer Straße via Wambacher Straße to Wambacherberg / Wolfsjäger (in the municipality of St. Florian).

Line 107

Line 107 runs from Froschberg / Ziegeleistraße via Grabnerstraße and Keferfeld to Hatschekstraße.

Line 191

Line 191 runs in Leonding from Gaumberg via Leonding / Stadtplatz to St. Martin.

Line 192

Line 192 runs from Theatergasse in Linz via St. Margarethen and Aichbergstrasse to Leonding / Stadtplatz.

Night lines

The Linz night lines generally run every 30 minutes. Up to 2016 there were three night lines as buses in addition to the N1 tram line, since then the Linz Lines have served the city with two tram lines and one bus line during the night.

Line N83

The night line N83 runs from the port of Linz via the Green Center, the main train station in Linz and the Bindermichl to the Neue Heimat. Most of the route was previously served by the N3 and N4 lines.

Former lines

Line 10

Line number 10 has been awarded several times in the course of history. It was introduced as a replacement for tram line E to Ebelsberg and operated between Laskahofstraße or Zöhrdorferfeld and Hillerstraße in the 1970s. It was later replaced by line 11, which ran to Falterweg. At times in the 1990s there was a line 10 from Simonystraße to the VÖEST site; this later went on in the changed line 18. Before the completion of the tram to Solarcity in 2005, line 10 ran between Hillerstraße and Solarcity.

Line 13

Line 13 was the forerunner of today's line 27 and ran from Blumauerplatz via Franckstraße to Chemie, later Hanriederstraße-Chemie or Froschberg-Chemie. Around 1990 it was merged with line 27, which originally only ran between Kollegiumgasse and Froschberg. Line number 13 was later given again for a short time in the mid-1990s for a line from Laskahofstraße to Leonding sports hall before it was included in lines 11 and 19 respectively.

Line 14

Line 14 led from Linz main train station to the Meixner crossing. It was discontinued after the commissioning of tram line 3 on August 14, 2011.

Line 15

Line 15 ran from Linz main train station via Leonding to Pasching . Until the opening of tram line 3 to the Trauner Kreuzung, line 610 of Wilhelm-Welser-Verkehrsbetriebe served as a replacement . It was discontinued at the end of September 2012.

Line 16

Line 16 ran from Auwiesen to Spinnereistraße after the Auwiesen housing estate was built in the 1980s. It was discontinued after tram line 1 was extended. In the 1990s, line 16 was reintroduced between Simonystraße and Hartheimer Straße, which was later extended to Hillerstraße. With the opening of tram line 2 it was discontinued.

Line 19a

Line 19a ran on Sundays and public holidays from the Linzer Industriezeile via the Meixnerkreuzung and the Leondingen district of Doppl to Traun-St. Martin, as this route is only used by line 191 during the week. Line 19a was discontinued in 2010 due to the low demand.

Line 19/22

Line 19/22 ran on weekdays until the mid-1990s as a link between the old lines 19 and 22 from St. Margarethen to Leonding or St. Martin via shipyard and Industriezeile. Later the name was changed to 19 and line 22 was closed.

Line 20

Line 20 was the successor to the tram replacement line M and ran from the main station to Garnisonstraße until the trolleybus line 21 was built in 1991.

Line 21

Line 21 operated as a bus line until 1991, then as a trolleybus until 2002, from the main train station to the port, as is the successor line 46 today, but not via Volksgarten and Coulinstraße, but via Waldeggstraße and Stockhofstraße.

Line 22

Line 22 ran from St. Margarethen to the shipyard along the Danube land. It merged with line 19 in the mid-1990s.

Line 23

Line 23 initially ran from Auwiesen - like line 12 today - to Ehrentletzbergerstraße, later only from the main train station to Ehrentletzbergerstraße. It was replaced in the mid-1990s by line 17, which was diverted via Pummererstraße.

Line 24

Line 24 was a reinforcement of line 25 in the Morgenspitze and ran from Chemie to Karlhof (like line 25).

Line 30

Line 30 ran until the extension of the tram to St. Magdalena between Urfahr / Sonnensteinstraße and St. Magdalena like today's line 33 to Steg and then via Pulvermühlstraße.

Line 31

Line 31 ran until the extension of the tram to Auhof between Urfahr / Sonnensteinstraße and Auhof / Runde like today's line 33 to Altenberger Straße and then over Altenberger Straße.

Line 32

Line 32 ran from Urfahr / Sonnensteinstraße (later Rudolfstraße) to Katzbach (later Plesching) and was replaced at the end of the 1990s by line 33 leading to the Auberg.

Line 37

Line 37 operated as a short tour to reinforce line 38 between Urfahr / Sonnensteinstraße and Gründberg / Runde.

Line 75

The express bus route 75 ran during rush hour in the mornings and afternoons instead of route 16 until the completion of tram route 2 in 2002 from the main train station via Wiener Straße (like the tram today) to Hillerstraße.

Line N2

Line N2 was a night line and ran from Simonystraße to solarCity . With the tram line N82 ( introduced at the end of 2016) (University - HBHF - Simonystraße - solarCity) the line N2 was abandoned.

Line N3

The N3 line was a night line and ran from the VOEST-Alpine to the Neue Heimat. Since 2016, Neue Heimat has been served at night from the main station with the N83 line.

Line N4

Line N4 was a night line and ran from Pummererstrasse to the stadium . While the route from the main train station to the stadium was abandoned at the end of 2016, the eastern part is served by the N83 line.

Planned lines

Line 13

The plan for line 13 was presented in October 2019. The line is to run from the Mühlkreisbahnhof via Hafenstrasse, Industriezeile and the Ebelsberg bypass to Pichlinger See. A 30-minute cycle is planned, which should be reduced to 15 minutes during rush hour. The line should start operating within 4 years.

Line 14

Line 14 was proposed in October 2019. This line is an express bus line and is intended to drive from the port via Garnisonstraße, Moosfelderstraße and Traundorferstraße to Ennsfeld. A 30-minute cycle is planned, which is to be reduced to 15 minutes during rush hour. The line should be operational within 4 years.

Vehicle fleet

Linz Linien GmbH currently has 88 natural gas buses, 74 of which are articulated and 14 solo cars . They were delivered between 2007 and 2012 to replace older diesel buses and are all low-floor .

The first of 88 MAN Lion's City EfficientHybrid buses was delivered on April 20, 2020. It is planned that all of the 88 buses will be replaced by 2024. The first buses are scheduled to start operating by the end of 2020.

history

In 1928, the ESG bus company was founded in Linz with three lines:

  • Blumauerplatz – Franckstrasse– St. Peter
  • Pfarrplatz – Freinberg
  • Pfarrplatz – St. Margarethen.

Later a fourth line (Neue Welt – Wegscheid) was introduced, which was closed again shortly afterwards due to a lack of passenger frequency.
